STEP

Established in 1986, the Saratoga Therapeutic Equestrian Program (STEP) is a charitable, not-for-profit 501 (C)(3) organization, registered in NY State, that is dedicated to helping special needs individuals achieve a maximum degree of freedom, independence and mobility through tested and innovative methods of equine assisted therapy and medical rehabilitation.  STEP’s therapists, instructors, and dedicated core of volunteers collaborate to provide equine assisted therapies and activities.  These activities include

• Hippotherapy
• our exclusive “STEP-up” program
• therapeutic riding
• driving
• competition

STEP Professionals in a variety of disciplines, including licensed Physical Therapists, provide individualized treatment planning for each special needs rider.  We also utilized volunteers, horse professionals and specially selected horses to achieve the goals of each rider.

Our Season runs from March 1 through December 1.

EQUINE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAM ages 11 and up (adults too)

All abilites will benefit from this  hands on program  about horses from the ground up.Learn about horse management and care, veterinary needs, equipment , leading , ground work and  the basics of riding.Must be able to be physically  independent in facility with supervision.

HORSE SENSE ( BRAIN INJURY RECOVERY PROGRAM)

Private 1:1 session with therapist for those  recovering from mild to moderate BRAIN INJURY . Focus is enjoyment of the horse in a structured environment gaining back the reins of life!

BACK IN the SADDLE

A Hippotherapy session with a liscensed Physical Therapist for injured or returning riders ages 16 and up with focus on proper stretching and strengthening utilizing the Mc Kenzie method of spinal rehabilitation and exercise with the horse as partner. Use of facility horse or own.
